Route 1 reopens to traffic after being temporarily blocked by dairy farmers

Route 1, the main road connecting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, has reopened after dairy farmers temporarily blocked it with a convoy to protest proposed changes to the dairy industry. The protest was aimed at reforms led by the finance minister, which include reducing domestic milk production, lowering payments to farmers, and removing tariffs to allow more dairy imports. Farmers expressed their concerns by pouring milk onto the road and displaying banners urging support for local products. The reforms are intended to break the longstanding centralized planning of the industry, but farmers warn they could severely impact their livelihoods.
