Negotiators from the United States and Iran have made substantial progress toward an agreement to curb Iran’s nuclear program, according to Oman’s foreign minister, who has been mediating the talks. He said a peace deal is within reach and described recent commitments from Tehran as a major breakthrough.
Iran has pledged that it will never develop nuclear material capable of producing a bomb. Its existing stockpiles of enriched uranium would be diluted to the lowest possible level and converted into irreversible fuel. The country has also agreed to zero accumulation of nuclear material and full verification measures.
Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency would be granted full access to nuclear sites to ensure compliance. While technical discussions are set to continue in Vienna, the mediator said more time is needed to finalize details.
President Donald Trump has expressed frustration with the pace of negotiations and has not ruled out military strikes, saying he is dissatisfied with Iran’s current position. Despite the tension, mediators remain hopeful that further talks can secure a lasting agreement.
