Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann questioned the Union government over the United States granting India a 30 day window to purchase Russian oil, asking whether the country was being run from the White House. He called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify the nature of India’s diplomatic ties with President Donald Trump and alleged that India’s foreign policy and sovereignty appeared compromised.
Mann criticized new agreements with the United States, including those related to agriculture, claiming they could make India overly dependent on foreign terms. He also announced that Tata Steel would begin operations at its second largest plant in India in Punjab on March 20, a project expected to generate more than 3,000 direct jobs and boost the state economy.
Addressing other issues, Mann said hundreds of people from Punjab were stranded in Middle East countries amid ongoing conflict and were being brought back in batches with the help of the Union government. He also said the state would strongly oppose the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025, arguing that it infringes on the rights of states, and criticized opposition parties for political theatrics.
