ITV forced to apologise over fans' expletive Keir Starmer chant

ITV has apologised after darts fans were heard chanting an offensive remark about Prime Minister Keir Starmer during coverage of the UK Open at Butlin's Minehead. The chant, which has been repeated at several recent tournaments, was clearly audible during the broadcast, prompting the broadcaster to issue an on-air apology to viewers.

The criticism of Starmer comes amid heightened political tensions following comments from United States President Donald Trump over the United Kingdom's initial reluctance to support military action related to drone attacks involving Iran. Trump publicly criticised Starmer before the British leader agreed to allow limited defensive missions from United Kingdom territory.

The incident occurred as teenage star Luke Littler secured an 11-7 victory over James Wade to retain his UK Open title. Meanwhile, protests in London also targeted Starmer's stance on the conflict, with demonstrators voicing opposition to his approach to the situation involving Iran.
