Residents across Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali, Kharar and Zirakpur faced a severe shortage of liquefied petroleum gas, with booking systems failing and long queues forming outside distribution outlets. Many households reported being unable to place online or phone bookings, while delivery supplies appeared limited, disrupting daily cooking routines and creating widespread uncertainty.
The shortage also impacted businesses, including small eateries and wedding venues that rely heavily on commercial cylinders. Some operators reported paying inflated prices on the open market, significantly higher than the official rate, raising concerns about black marketing. Marriage palace owners warned that prolonged disruption could force them to switch to traditional wood-fired cooking methods.
District authorities, however, stated that there is no shortage of domestic liquefied petroleum gas, petrol or diesel, and urged residents not to panic or stockpile supplies. Officials said adequate stock is available and that monitoring mechanisms have been strengthened to ensure regular distribution, while restrictions on commercial cylinders remain in place except for essential services.
