Milan Cortina Paralympics end with another boycott by Ukraine at...

The Milan Cortina Winter Paralympics concluded in Italy with a closing ceremony boycotted by Ukraine in protest over the return of Russian athletes competing under their national flag. The Russian anthem was played eight times during the Games, marking its first appearance at a Paralympics in a decade. Ukraine accused the International Paralympic Committee of discrimination and politicizing the event, while the committee rejected the claim.

China topped the medals table with 15 gold medals and a total of 44 medals, continuing its dominance in Paralympic competition. The United States finished second with 13 gold medals, matching its total from the 2018 Winter Games, while Russia placed third with eight gold medals. Host nation Italy finished fourth with seven gold medals.

The Games marked the 50th anniversary of the Winter Paralympics and were the largest edition to date, featuring 611 athletes from 55 nations. A record 160 female athletes competed, and 27 nations won medals across 79 events. Organizers also faced challenges including warm weather that disrupted scheduling and a curling equipment controversy before the competition began. The next Winter Paralympics will be held in the French Alps in 2030.
