An Israeli reservist who served in a classified role within the Iron Dome air defense system has been arrested on suspicion of spying for Iran in exchange for cryptocurrency payments. The 26 year old from Jerusalem was detained in a joint operation by Israel's internal security service and the national major crimes unit, and an indictment has been filed in the Jerusalem District Court.
Prosecutors allege that the suspect maintained contact with an Iranian agent through the Telegram messaging application beginning in December. In return for payment, he reportedly agreed to carry out a series of assignments, including transferring sensitive security information related to his military duties. He is accused of sharing details about the air defense system's operations, battery structure and interception procedures, along with photos and videos recorded during his service.
The indictment further claims he provided locations of air force bases and air defense batteries, as well as personal details of individuals who could potentially be recruited. Authorities said he was aware he was communicating with Iranian elements and received approximately 1,000 dollars in cryptocurrency for his actions.
