A missile fired from Iran struck a residential neighborhood in the southern Israeli city of Arad on Saturday night, injuring dozens and causing widespread destruction. The blast left a crater in a courtyard, shattered windows more than half a mile away, and scattered debris across the area. Three apartment buildings near the impact site are set to be demolished due to the damage.
Hours earlier, another missile directly hit the nearby city of Dimona, just miles from Israel's main nuclear research facility. Arad and Dimona are the closest cities to the heavily guarded site. Emergency and health officials reported that at least 10 people were seriously injured in the two strikes, though no fatalities were recorded.
Many of those wounded in Arad were not in shelters when the missile struck, including elderly residents who had difficulty reaching protected areas in time. Residents described powerful shock waves that shook homes and left families in fear, with children and adults alike grappling with the aftermath of a strike unlike any the city had previously experienced.
