WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will translate entire conversations directly within the chat interface. The update, discovered in an experimental version of the app for iPhone, aims to eliminate the need for copying messages into external translation tools.
Once enabled through a 'Translate messages' option in chat settings, incoming messages will be automatically translated into a selected language. Users will be able to define both the source and target languages, allowing seamless conversations without leaving the app. The feature is expected to work in private chats and in group conversations, as long as participants use the same language.
To maintain privacy and end-to-end encryption, translations will be processed directly on the device using Apple's local language packs rather than being sent to external servers. While several major languages are supported in the current beta version, Hebrew is not yet included. There is no official timeline for when the feature will be widely released.
