Uganda's military chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, says he wants the war involving Iran and Israel to end, but warned that Uganda would intervene if Israel faced destruction or defeat. In a social media post, he said the world is tired of the conflict yet made clear that Uganda would join the fighting on Israel's side if necessary.
Kainerugaba's remarks signal strong public support for Israel from Uganda's military leadership. He framed any threat to Israel's existence as a red line that would trigger Uganda's involvement.
Last month, Kainerugaba also announced plans for Uganda to erect a statue honoring Yoni Netanyahu, brother of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Yoni Netanyahu was killed while leading an Israeli military operation to rescue hostages at Entebbe in 1976.
