China's foreign minister Wang Yi said a 'glimmer of hope' for peace has emerged in the Middle East conflict, citing signals from both Iran and the United States that they may be willing to return to negotiations. He made the remarks during separate calls with the foreign ministers of Egypt and Turkiye, urging dialogue to end nearly four weeks of fighting.

Despite Beijing's optimism, Iran publicly rejected claims that talks are underway. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said no negotiations have taken place and described discussing talks now as an admission of defeat. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump insisted that Iran is seeking a deal but is reluctant to say so publicly.

Wang warned that prolonging the war would lead to further casualties and a wider regional spillover. China expressed support for diplomatic efforts by regional powers to help bring both sides back to the negotiating table.
