Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office has rejected Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara's request to the High Court to remove National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir from his post, calling the move 'inconceivable.' The statement comes amid what the prime minister's office described as an existential war against Iran led by President Donald Trump and Netanyahu.
According to the prime minister's office, Ben Gvir is responsible for internal security during the war and will remain in his position. The office argued that the attorney general's request undermines the foundations of democracy, harms the principle of separation of powers, and contradicts Basic Law: The Government.
Baharav-Miara based her request on claims that Ben Gvir has systematically undermined the independence of the police.
