35 US rabbis arrested in separate NYC and DC demonstrations for Gaza food aid

Dozens of United States rabbis were arrested in separate demonstrations in Washington and New York City, calling for increased food aid to Gaza and an end to what they described as Israel's blockade. The Washington protest took place at the office of Senate Majority Leader John Thune, where 27 rabbis displayed banners and read from religious texts before being detained by Capitol police. The day before, eight rabbis were arrested outside the Israeli Consulate in New York City during a similar protest.

These actions reflect growing concern among American Jews about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with thousands signing petitions and open letters urging for immediate relief and an end to the conflict. Prominent rabbis involved in the protests emphasized the spiritual responsibility to protect all human life and called for urgent action from elected officials. The demonstrations come amid international attention on the hunger crisis in Gaza and ongoing calls for a ceasefire and the return of hostages.
