A man accused of throwing chairs and food during a pro-Palestinian protest at an Israeli restaurant in Melbourne has been denied bail. Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz ruled that Antwany Arnold posed an unacceptable risk to the community, citing his alleged involvement in multiple incidents, including breaching previous bail conditions and using offensive language and threats.
Police allege Arnold participated in disruptive actions outside Miznon restaurant and was also involved in a separate altercation on Bourke Street, where he is accused of spitting on a man and making threats. The court viewed video evidence of both incidents and heard that Arnold had previously been ordered to stay out of the Melbourne central business district.
The magistrate concluded that no bail conditions could adequately mitigate the risk Arnold posed, especially given his alleged disregard for previous court orders. Arnold is set to appear in court again in August.
