Sgt. First Class Nitzan Schessler, a 21-year-old reservist from Hadera, was killed in action on January 15, 2024, during fighting in southern Gaza. Born in Azerbaijan and adopted as a baby, Nitzan grew up in Israel, where he excelled in soccer and developed a love for travel, music, and history. He put aside his athletic ambitions to serve in the military, where he was known for his dedication and pride. After completing his service, he lived with his girlfriend, worked as a security guard, and saved for future adventures. Remembered by family and friends as joyful, loving, and brave, Nitzan was honored at his funeral for his sacrifice and the vibrant life he led.
