India has unveiled Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a comprehensive national defence shield designed to protect the country from missile attacks, cyber threats, and terrorism by the year 2035. Announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence Day, the initiative will integrate surveillance, cyber defence, and advanced weaponry, all developed domestically under the self-reliance campaign. Drawing inspiration from the mythological Sudarshan Chakra, the shield is conceptually similar to advanced defence systems in other countries and will involve collaboration between government agencies, research institutions, and private sector innovators.
The new system will build upon existing frameworks such as the Integrated Air Command and Control System and Project Kusha, aiming to create a multi-layered protective network. The announcement comes amid rising regional security concerns, particularly following recent operations by neighboring countries. Mission Sudarshan Chakra represents a significant step toward strengthening India's national security infrastructure for the future.
