The Israeli military has announced the beginning of the next phase of its campaign against Hamas, expanding operations across multiple fronts including Gaza, the Lebanese border, Syria, and Judea and Samaria. Brigadier General Effie Defrin stated that troops are intensifying combat in Gaza City and its outskirts, targeting Hamas strongholds and underground infrastructure. Recent clashes in southern Khan Yunis resulted in the thwarting of a terrorist attack and the elimination of several militants, though one Israeli soldier was seriously wounded.

Defrin emphasized that Hamas has been severely weakened, shifting from a military organization to a battered guerrilla force. Israeli forces are continuing to locate and destroy tunnels and weapons caches, while also increasing humanitarian aid efforts in southern Gaza to protect civilians. The military is preparing to issue tens of thousands of reserve orders in September to support ongoing operations.

The hostages held by Hamas remain a central concern for the Israeli military, which is working closely with relevant authorities to secure their release. Defrin reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring civilian safety, the return of hostages, and the dismantling of the Hamas regime.
