Yizhar Shai, whose son Yaron was killed in battle, voiced his sorrow after memorial stickers honoring victims of the October 7 attacks were removed from Ben Gurion Airport. Upon returning to Israel, Shai found that hundreds of stickers, including one for his son, had vanished from the airport's security area. Airport staff told him the removal was ordered from above, which Shai interpreted as an attempt to shield travelers from the painful reality of the ongoing conflict and its tragic cost.

Shai reflected on the desire of some to avoid confronting the loss and suffering, especially in a place frequented by many Israelis. He insisted that the memory of nearly two thousand victims, both civilians and security personnel, must never be erased. Even if their images are removed, Shai wrote, their presence endures as part of Israel's collective memory.

He concluded with a call to remembrance, stating that the sacrifices and scars of the war must always be acknowledged, and that the victims' legacy will remain woven into the nation's life forever.
