Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, often referred to as the 'Iron Lady' of Germany, is set to visit Israel next month. Merkel, who led Germany from 2005 to 2021, will receive an honorary doctorate from the Weizmann Institute of Science during her stay. In addition to the academic honor, she is scheduled to hold meetings with President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar. The visit comes just four months after Merkel publicly criticized Netanyahu, adding a layer of political significance to her trip.
