Senior Hamas leader Osama Hamdan announced that a newly signed agreement is expected to bring about a final end to the conflict in Gaza. The deal, mediated by international parties and set to be declared by the United States, includes guarantees that Israel will uphold its commitments. The ceasefire is anticipated to begin once the Israeli government approves the agreement.
As part of the arrangement, Hamas has called for a halt to aerial operations over Gaza to enable the release of hostages. The agreement outlines the release of 250 individuals serving life sentences and 1,700 other prisoners in exchange for 20 living hostages and 28 bodies, most of whom are civilians. Senior figures from Hamas are among those slated for release.
