Israel has confirmed the death of Sgt. Maj. Tal Haimi, whose remains were recently returned from Gaza. Haimi, commander of Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak's rapid response team, was killed defending his community during the October 7, 2023, attacks and his body was held in Gaza for over two years. Haimi was a third-generation resident of the kibbutz, remembered as a devoted family man and skilled engineer. His family, including a child born after his death, mourns his loss as Israel continues to call for the return of all deceased hostages' remains for proper burial. Currently, 15 bodies, including those of foreign citizens, remain in Gaza, with ongoing appeals for their release.
