Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone conversation to discuss escalating tensions in the Middle East, focusing on the situation in Gaza, Iran's nuclear activities, and developments in Syria. The call, initiated by Putin, was described as a 'thorough exchange of views' by both governments and marks the latest in a series of recent discussions between the two leaders.
In parallel diplomatic moves, Russia has introduced its own draft resolution at the United Nations regarding Gaza, directly challenging a United States-backed proposal. The Russian draft seeks to establish a more balanced and unified approach to achieving a sustainable ceasefire and calls for the United Nations secretary-general to explore options for an international stabilization force in Gaza. Unlike the United States plan, the Russian proposal omits references to a transitional administration.
The United States draft, which includes a detailed peace plan and a potential international force, is currently under consideration by the Security Council. Talks continue among several countries about possible contributions to a stabilization force, as efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in Gaza remain a focal point of international diplomacy.
