Intelligence minister Esmail Khatib stated that the enemy seeks to target the supreme leader through assassination attempts and hostile actions, directly naming the United States and Israel as threats. Such explicit warnings regarding Khamenei's safety have been rare, especially before the recent conflict between Iran and Israel. During the war, there were reports of strikes on Iranian officials and nuclear sites, and claims that the United States blocked an Israeli proposal to assassinate Khamenei. Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, have expressed concerns about the supreme leader's security and the potential for internal unrest if such an attack were to occur. A ceasefire between Iran and Israel has been in place since late June, but tensions remain high as both sides warn of possible renewed hostilities.
