Oscar-winning filmmaker Richard Trank, known for his decades of documentary work on Jewish and Israeli themes, has relocated to Israel after a lifetime in Los Angeles. Trank is launching a new production company, Sea Point Films and Media, and is currently working on 'The Road Home,' a documentary focusing on the rehabilitation journeys of Israelis who survived the October 7 attacks. Drawing parallels to his earlier work about Holocaust survivors, Trank aims to highlight the resilience and determination of those rebuilding their lives after trauma.
Trank's move comes after his departure from the Simon Wiesenthal Center, where he led the Moriah Films branch for over forty years and collaborated with some of Hollywood's biggest names. He is also filming 'Always 28,' a documentary about Nathan Baskind, a Jewish US Army officer whose remains were recently recovered and reburied in Normandy. Trank expresses optimism about his new chapter in Israel, hoping his work can help shift the narrative around Israeli and Jewish stories in the documentary world.
