Toronto Police have charged a local man with willful promotion of hatred after he allegedly distributed antisemitic flyers in the city's west end. The accused, Oliver Couto, is reported to have handed out the flyers near Bloor Street and Lansdowne Avenue in January 2025. The charges, which require approval from the provincial Ministry of the Attorney-General, could result in harsher sentencing if bias or prejudice is proven.

The incident comes amid a surge in antisemitic acts across Toronto, with recent data showing a historic rise in hate crimes targeting the Jewish community. Other recent incidents include thefts of religious items, attacks on synagogues, and confrontations involving Jewish residents. Couto is scheduled to appear in court in February 2026.
