More than eight decades after his death during aerial combat over China, First Lieutenant Morton Scher, a Jewish American pilot, has finally been laid to rest in the United States. Scher, who was killed at age 22 during World War II, was buried at Greenville cemetery in South Carolina. For years, a gravestone marked his name above an empty grave, but his remains have now been returned home, bringing closure to a story that began in 1943.
