The United States has imposed new sanctions on ten individuals and entities in Iran and Venezuela, aiming to disrupt networks supporting Iran's unmanned aerial vehicle and ballistic missile programs. Among those targeted is a Venezuelan company involved in acquiring and assembling Iranian-designed combat drones for Venezuela's armed forces, reflecting concerns over the spread of conventional weapons in the Western Hemisphere.
The U.S. Treasury cited Iran's provision of weapons to Venezuela as a direct threat to American interests and stressed its commitment to blocking financial access for those aiding Iran's military industry. The sanctions also target Iranian individuals and companies involved in procuring chemicals for missile production, as well as defense firms supporting advanced technology for Iran's military.
These measures build on previous U.S. actions and upcoming United Nations restrictions, highlighting ongoing worries about the destabilizing impact of Iran's weapons programs in the Middle East and beyond. The U.S. government stated that the purpose of these sanctions is to encourage behavioral change and outlined procedures for removal from the sanctions list.
