Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has alleged that Somaliland agreed to accept displaced people from Gaza in return for recognition from Israel. In an interview, Mohamud claimed intelligence reports indicate Somaliland also consented to hosting an Israeli military base and joining normalization agreements with Israel. He argued that Israel's recognition of Somaliland is aimed at destabilizing Somalia and the broader region, especially as Somalia seeks peaceful unity. Israel recently became the first country to formally recognize Somaliland, a territory Somalia regards as part of its own.
