Israel has announced it will immediately cut all contact with three United Nations agencies and international organizations, citing concerns over bias, inefficiency, and undermining of national sovereignty. The organizations affected are the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, United Nations Energy, and the Global Forum on Migration and Development. This move follows Israel's recent withdrawal from four other United Nations agencies, including those focused on children in armed conflict and gender equality, which Israel accused of anti-Israel bias and ignoring violence against Israeli citizens.
The Foreign Ministry stated that further reviews of Israel's participation in international organizations are underway, with additional decisions expected in the future. The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and United Nations bodies, including new legislation passed by Israel to cut off utilities to United Nations Relief and Works Agency facilities in Gaza, a decision the United Nations has condemned as outrageous and illegal.
