A new poll from the Israel Democracy Institute reveals deep divisions among Israelis regarding potential involvement in a United States-led pre-emptive military strike on Iran. Half of respondents support Israeli participation only if Iran attacks first, while 44 percent favor direct involvement alongside the United States from the outset. The poll also highlights differences across political and demographic groups, with Jewish Israelis and those on the political right more likely to support pre-emptive action, while Arab Israelis and those on the left prefer retaliatory measures.

On the issue of reducing United States military aid, nearly half of respondents believe such a move would harm Israel's security, though opinions vary across political lines. The survey also found that just over half support Prime Minister Netanyahu joining United States President Donald Trump's Board of Peace, but a significant portion remain uncertain, especially among Arab respondents. When asked about responsibility for a recent illegal daycare tragedy in Jerusalem, most blame was placed on daycare operators, though haredi respondents were more likely to fault government ministries.

The poll, conducted in late January 2026, reflects ongoing debates within Israeli society on national security, international alliances, and domestic accountability.
