Residents of Kfar Aza are grappling with how to handle homes in the young generation neighborhood that were destroyed and scarred during the October 7 attack. The debate centers on whether to preserve the bullet-riddled and burned buildings as a memorial or to rebuild the area as part of the community’s recovery.
Beyond internal discussions, some residents are concerned about possible government intervention following media coverage and advocacy from families who support full preservation of the neighborhood. Although no formal action has been taken, there is unease that an external decision could be imposed.
Doron, whose son Yuval Solomon was killed in the neighborhood, stressed that the kibbutz alone must determine the future of the site and how it should be commemorated. He emphasized that decisions about remembrance and rebuilding should remain in the hands of the community, not national political leaders.
