Hanan Lischinsky, brother of slain Israeli Embassy staffer Yaron Lischinsky, will attend Tuesday's State of the Union address as a guest of House Speaker Mike Johnson. The invitation follows the killing of Yaron Lischinsky and his colleague Sarah Milgrim in Washington after they left an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in May.
The two diplomats, who were planning to become engaged in Israel, were described by Johnson as devoted to peace and to each other. He said their futures were taken in a violent act of antisemitism and praised Hanan Lischinsky for speaking out against the extremism that led to his brother's death.
Johnson previously honored the victims at a bipartisan memorial service at the Capitol, where he warned of rising threats against Jewish Americans. He called for stronger condemnation of the killings and urged greater protection for Jewish communities.
