Israel and Iran have entered a second day of intense warfare following the confirmation that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during initial airstrikes on Tehran. Around 200 Israeli fighter jets are participating in what has been described as the largest operation in the history of the Israeli Air Force, with strikes continuing across multiple locations in Iran.
Iran has responded with sustained missile attacks on Israel. While most projectiles have been intercepted, a missile struck a residential building in Tel Aviv, killing a 40 year-old woman and injuring 20 others, one of them seriously. Additional missiles landed in several cities without causing casualties. Israel has placed the country on emergency footing, closing schools and workplaces except for essential services.
The conflict has spread across the region, with Iran launching missiles toward Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Buildings in Dubai and Bahrain were hit, and airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi were struck. Airspace closures across much of the Middle East have led to widespread flight cancellations, while major shipping companies have halted transit through the Gulf.
