The White House is set to meet with top defense contractors to push for faster weapons production as military strikes on Iran and other recent operations have depleted United States stockpiles. The talks reflect growing urgency within the administration to replenish munitions and air defense systems that have been heavily used in the Middle East and other conflict zones.
Executives from major firms, including Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, have been invited to discuss expanding output and accelerating contract negotiations, which officials say have moved too slowly. The administration has also increased pressure on contractors to prioritize fulfilling government contracts over distributing profits to shareholders.
Recent agreements aim to significantly raise annual production of key missile interceptors and air defense systems, with demand rising among the United States and its allies amid heightened geopolitical tensions. The meeting may coincide with a supplemental budget request of about 50 billion dollars to replace weapons used in recent conflicts, adding to a broader increase in defense spending already approved by lawmakers.
