The United States Department of State has approved a 151.8 million dollar sale of munitions to Israel without submitting the deal for congressional review. Secretary of State Marco Rubio invoked emergency authority, citing national security interests, to expedite the transfer following the recent joint military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Israel requested 12,000 general purpose 1,000 pound bomb bodies, with Repkon USA in Texas named as the principal contractor. The announcement came a week after air assaults began on Iran, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions.
Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks criticized the decision to bypass Congress, arguing that the move contradicts claims that the administration was fully prepared for the conflict. He described the emergency declaration as a consequence of the administration's own actions.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in heavy casualties. Iranian officials report more than 1,300 civilians killed and thousands wounded, along with the deaths of senior leaders. The United States military said six service members were killed in Kuwait, while Israeli officials reported at least 10 civilian deaths in Israel.
