The joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran have triggered a widening regional crisis, with retaliatory attacks drawing neighbouring countries into the conflict. Major cities in Iran, including Tehran, were hit alongside military facilities in Natanz and Isfahan, prompting civilians to flee towards nearby borders such as Turkey.
In Lebanon, memories of past wars resurfaced as Hezbollah launched missiles and drones at Israel following the killing of Iran's supreme leader. Israel responded with strikes on Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon. Inside Israel, while many incoming projectiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome defence system, some broke through, including one that struck a synagogue in Beit Shemesh, causing fatalities.
The fallout has extended further afield as Iran targeted states hosting United States military bases, including Cyprus, home to a long standing Royal Air Force presence. Beyond the immediate violence, the broader instability is being felt across the region and even in Europe, where economic uncertainty and renewed conflict have cast a shadow over communities far from the front lines.
