The desert has erupted into a rare and vibrant bloom, with sweeping stretches of white, pink, purple and red covering the landscape. Following significant seasonal rainfall, annual plants have transformed typically arid areas into colorful displays, creating an unusual and striking scene.
Amid the ongoing war, thousands of Israelis have traveled south to seek brief relief from frequent sirens, heading to regions such as Mitzpe Ramon and the Ramat Negev Regional Council. Visitors are taking the opportunity to witness the spectacle, which stands in sharp contrast to the tension elsewhere in the country.
According to open-space ecologist Dotan Rotem from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, the desert can appear stark and dry in most years. However, when rainfall is abundant, vast open landscapes become painted in seasonal color, revealing a surprising ecological richness.
