Officials in President Donald Trump's administration told senators in a closed briefing that the first six days of the war with Iran have cost the United States at least $11.3 billion. The estimate does not represent the full cost of the conflict, and lawmakers expect the White House to request tens of billions of dollars more in additional funding.
The military campaign began on February 28 with joint airstrikes by the United States and Israel, disrupting global energy markets and transportation networks. Administration officials said $5.6 billion in munitions were used in just the first two days of fighting, raising concerns about the strain on military stockpiles.
Members of Congress from both parties have pressed for greater transparency about the war’s projected duration and overall cost. While President Trump declared that 'we won' the war, he also said the United States would remain engaged to finish the job, even as lawmakers weigh the financial and strategic implications of a prolonged conflict.
