Kharg Island, located off Iran's southern coast, plays a central role in the country's energy exports and broader economy. Much of Iran's crude oil passes through the island, making it one of its most strategically sensitive locations.

Trump said he chose not to target the island's oil infrastructure, citing decency, but warned that this restraint could change. He cautioned that any interference with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz would prompt an immediate reconsideration of that decision.
