Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all countries except the United States and Israel. He stated that many tankers and commercial vessels are continuing to pass through the strategic waterway, and claimed that any hesitation by shipping companies is due to security concerns unrelated to Iran.
His remarks came after United States President Donald Trump announced that the United States and several other nations would deploy warships to ensure the strait remains open and secure. Trump named countries including China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom as being affected by what he described as Iran's attempted closure.
Araghchi also rejected claims by United States Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had been wounded. He said the leader was continuing to carry out his constitutional duties and stressed that the Islamic Republic remains stable and capable of functioning regardless of individual figures.
