US could take Iran's main oil export hub 'at a time of our choosing,' Jack Keane says

Retired four star Army General Jack Keane said the United States could seize Iran's main oil export hub, Kharg Island, at a time of its choosing, describing it as a decisive point of leverage in the ongoing conflict. He emphasized that while the option remains available to the president, such a move has not yet been taken.

Keane explained that Kharg Island is central to Iran's economy, accounting for a significant share of the country's budget, revenue, and oil distribution. He said capturing or blockading the island would effectively place the Iranian regime in 'checkmate' by cutting off its primary economic lifeline.

His remarks follow continued military operations by the United States and Israel targeting Iran's military infrastructure. President Donald Trump recently stated that American forces carried out a major bombing raid on military targets on Kharg Island, describing it as one of the most powerful operations in the region's history.

Kharg Island handles roughly 90 percent of Iran's crude oil exports, with a loading capacity of about 7 million barrels per day. Much of that oil is shipped to China and India, underscoring the island's importance to global energy markets as well as Iran's economy.
