A Palestinian Arab man was injured by shrapnel from missile debris that struck near the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City, according to local reports. The impact occurred close to the Mughrabi Gate, causing damage to nearby facilities and sending thick smoke into the air. The injured man was evacuated for medical treatment.
Following the strike, Israeli security forces closed the Al-Aqsa compound and evacuated worshippers, citing an emergency situation and a ban on gatherings. The Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron was also shut until further notice. The closures came amid heightened tensions during Ramadan.
The incident sparked widespread anger across the Arab world and on social media, with some commentators blaming Iran for endangering one of Islam’s holiest sites. One widely shared post claimed that 'Khameini is doing what Ben-Gvir and Smotrich couldn't.' Others promoted a conspiracy theory alleging that Israel was responsible for the debris damage.
The Palestinian Authority government said Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa held an emergency meeting to coordinate institutional responses and instructed officials to provide assistance to affected civilians.
