The Tel Aviv District Court convicted alleged crime boss Ismail Jarushi and 12 other defendants in an extortion case that escalated into gunfire at a Tel Aviv money-changing business. The convictions followed a plea agreement in which the defendants admitted to an amended indictment involving threats, conspiracy, firearms offenses, and shooting attacks tied to an alleged debt of about one million shekels.
Prosecutors said Jarushi and several co-defendants pressured the complainant for months through repeated calls, messages, and in-person meetings, demanding hundreds of thousands of shekels. When the complainant refused to meet the full demands, the campaign escalated. After an initial shooting struck the wrong address, assailants returned days later and fired multiple shots at the correct business location, later documenting the damage.
As part of the plea deal, the adult defendants face prison terms ranging from 13 to 45 months, while sentencing for the minors has not yet been determined. Jarushi also deposited 150,000 shekels in compensation for the complainant. The court must still decide on penalties for the minors, and restrictions remain in place on identifying those who were underage at the time of the offenses.
