$35 million VC fund launches thanks to reservist's chance encounter on the Gaza border

A chance encounter between reserve combat paramedic David Citron and venture capitalist Alan Buch at the Zikim crossing bordering the Gaza Strip led to the launch of a $35 million VC fund. Citron, who served in the IDF's 401st Armored Brigade during the war with Hamas, and Buch, who flew in from New York to deliver supplies to soldiers, decided to combine their interests in investing in tech companies and supporting Israeli innovation. The fund, called TBD VC, plans to invest $1 million each into 20 young startups focused on cybersecurity, enterprise software, and infrastructure. Citron also aims to make the tech world more accessible to combat veterans and is donating a portion of the fund's profits to a nonprofit organization that helps released soldiers build skills for careers in tech.
