Turkey has begun a restoration project to strengthen the dome of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, focusing on its earthquake resilience. The 50-year plan aims to preserve the iconic landmark and ensure its longevity for future generations. The restoration work, which began three years ago, will concentrate on the dome, walls, and minarets, with dome restoration set to start in 2025. All interventions will be conducted from the exterior to protect the interior mosaics. The project includes the installation of a steel platform system to allow uninterrupted worship and tourist access during the restoration process.
