Iran moves to slash zeros from its plunging national currency

Iran's parliament has revived a plan to remove four zeros from its national currency, the rial, in an effort to simplify financial transactions amid ongoing economic challenges. The economic commission approved the proposal, which would make one rial equal to 10,000 of the current value and introduce a new subdivision called the gheran. This move, first discussed in 2019, still requires approval from the full parliament and the Guardian Council before it can take effect. The timing for a parliamentary vote on the bill has not yet been announced.
