Rabbi Dov Lando, a leading figure in the ultra-Orthodox Degel HaTorah party, has accused the Israeli government of targeting the Haredi community after the arrest of two draft evaders. In a strongly worded statement, Lando warned that Haredi Judaism would launch an unprecedented global campaign in response to what he described as a declaration of war on yeshiva students. The rabbinic leader is currently consulting with activists and other sub-groups in Bnei Brak to coordinate a unified response. Lando emphasized that any move to arrest yeshiva students for draft evasion would provoke a worldwide mobilization of the Haredi community, determined to defend its values and way of life.
