Irish rap group Kneecap voiced strong support for Palestine during their recent performance in Oslo, Norway. Before taking the stage, the trio displayed a message condemning the Norwegian government's investments in its sovereign wealth fund, accusing it of enabling violence against Palestinians. The message, which claimed that over 80,000 people have been killed by Israel in 21 months, was met with cheers from the audience.
Kneecap has been outspoken about the war in Gaza and has faced controversy over their political stance. Last year, an attempt to block an arts grant for the band in Britain was overturned after a change in government. More recently, Kneecap was banned from entering Hungary for three years over accusations of antisemitism, a move the band described as an effort to silence criticism of the conflict. Despite opposition from some Hungarian artists, festival organizers defended the group, stating their performance would not violate festival values or local laws.
