Jewish visits to the Temple Mount saw a notable increase last month, with over 7,500 individuals ascending the site during the Hebrew month of Av. This marks a 15 percent rise compared to the same period last year, according to figures released by the Temple Mount Administration. Since the beginning of the year, more than 54,000 Jews have visited the site, including nearly 1,000 at the start of the Hebrew month of Elul.
The Temple Mount, a location of deep religious significance for both Jews and Muslims, continues to be a focal point of tension. While Jews are allowed to visit, Muslim worshippers and leaders view the growing number of Jewish visitors as a challenge to the longstanding arrangement that permits only Muslim prayer at the compound. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the current agreement, even as some government officials advocate for changes to the rules surrounding religious practices at the site.
