Humza Yousaf, the former leader of Scotland, has issued a heartfelt appeal after a relative was killed in Gaza while searching for food for his children. In a video message, Yousaf and his wife Nadia El-Nakla described how Ahmed, a member of El-Nakla's extended family, was shot near an aid distribution center run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. The couple criticized the foundation, claiming it has become a deadly trap for Palestinians desperate for supplies, with hundreds reportedly killed while trying to access aid.
Yousaf and El-Nakla called for genuine humanitarian assistance to be allowed into Gaza, condemning the blockade and the role of the foundation, which has faced international scrutiny for its operations. They highlighted the ongoing famine and accused the world of ignoring the suffering of civilians, urging immediate action to ensure food, water, and medicine reach those in need.
The foundation was given exclusive responsibility for aid distribution after other organizations were denied access, but its operations have been widely criticized for contributing to the crisis. United Nations experts have warned that civilians are suffering due to failures by the international community. Yousaf, who resigned as Scotland's leader in May, has been outspoken about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with his family personally affected by the conflict.
